What is Twitter?

According to Wikipedia

“Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to send “updates” (or “tweets”; text-based posts, up to 140 characters long) to the Twitter website, via short message service, instant messaging, email, or an application such as Twitterrific.”

You have all heard of social networking, but maybe not mirco-blogging, this is what Twitter is well known for. In micro blogging you are limited to 200 characters (Twitter is 140) updates which is sent by several modes of delivery like SMS, email and instant messaging. Whereas a more traditional blogs you will be able to increase your characters unlimited and write with more features like pictures, etc. This is why people like twitter so much it’s a simplified blogging platform.

How to set up your Twitter account?

Step 1- Fill up your user name, password and email address that you would like to use for your Twitter account.

Step 2 - You can add your yahoo/ hotmail or other email address that you use with the password, this will allow Twitter to search for your friends who currently have an twitter account. Passwords will not be kept as mentioned by twitter.

Step 3- What are you doing right now? Here’s your chance to write a short micro blog on what you like talk about, other options include search for some friends and turn your mobile phone on.

Step 4- Look for the setting option in top right corner of the page and click. This will transfer you to your profile where you are able to add your blog URL, picture, personnel particulars

Step 5 - So at this stage your account is operational, but you would like to add your RSS feed to it right? It can be added quite easily by going to twitterfeed.com and follow the instructions there. By adding your Feed and frequency for update Twitter will automatically retrieve your latest updates.

So now you have a twitter account, with your personal particulars added including picture and a short write up to your blog as well as your blogs RSS feed linked directly to your Twitter account.
