Singapore Duck Race

Had I very busy Sunday, and was unable to do any posts….

I was involved as a Volunteer for the charity event called the “SCS Great Singapore Duck Race” which was back after 3 year absence was back with a very important mission to raise funds for charity and bring on some wholesome family fun for the community.

Organized by Festival Square Circle, the SCS Great Singapore Duck Race 2007 will be the 7th time that the Duck Race is being held at the Singapore River. Powered by the tidal flow of the river, this event might be the swan song for the Duck Race before the Singapore River becomes a reservoir.

The benefiting Charities are as follows:

  • Concern and Care Society
  • Handicaps Welfare Association
  • Metta Welfare Association
  • Tampines Family Service Centre
  • Tan Tock Seng Hospital Community Charity Fund
  • TOUCH Community Services

How this works is quite simple, anyone could adopt a duck which costs S$10 (US$6) and with this you will in return get a certificate with a serial number. This number is later your duck number.

The ducks around 90,000 will then be released into the river and they will navigate course which is approximate 400m, and the duck to cross the line first will win its adoptee $10,000 (US$6,000) in return.

So for a days work the charity event raised approx S$900,000.

I had a great day running around and was involved with the setting up and crowd control when the race was under way and of course dismantling the event….

You can see several pictures of the event below and you can image the headache at the end collecting the ducks as a lot never made it to the end.

Oh as you can image I got sun burnt like a roast duck too.
