Upgraded to WordPress 2.5

After the release of WordPress 2.5 earlier in the week, I have finally got around to looking at upgrading my version to the latest. So I activated my automatic upgrade plugin and set about the upgrade process. The whole upgrade took me around 10 minutes to run though, I choose to use the manual upgrade path and all went well.

Then with in seconds I was getting comments (spam) for my approval, that when I noticed my plugins was still switched off. So quickly turning on askimet and it all stopped and I spent another 10 minutes activating all my other plugins. Tip: take a screen shot of all your plugins before upgrade as it make it easy in future.

Theme Test Drive WordPress Plugin

The Theme Test Drive WordPress Plugin allows bloggers to test drive other themes in the safety of the back office while your readers continue to view your actual theme. This can be a very powerful tool as we all like to play around with new idea for layouts, colors or designs with the security of knowing our readers will not get messed around in the process.

Once you are happy with your final result all you need do is switch over and your new theme will be live.

Installation of Theme Test Drive WordPress Plugin

* Upload the Plugin folder to your /wp-content/plugins/ folder
* Activate the Plugin by going to Dashboard - Plugins
* Select Presentation tab followed by Theme Test drive

Adding Your Blog Feed to Twitter

We all use Twitter to keep in contact with our friends and frequently sent idle chat between one another, but we can use Twitter to send our RSS feeds too, by using twitterfeed we can automatically update our followers of our latest posts from our blog by RSS feeds without lifting a finger.

Before we go though the setting up , you will need two things:
1. A twitter account, if you don’t have your account click here to sign up
2. You will require an OpenID account (you may use your yahoo OpenID)

Having now got your twitter account and OpenID set up we are ready to sign up for Twitterfeed, Here are the steps :

As mentioned set up your Twitter account, and login into twitterfeed with your OpenID (if you use Yahoo then use your login profile information)

WordPress 2.5 Has Arrived…

The day has come and WordPress 2.5 has been rolled out. With the effort of the WordPress community for the last 6 months the improvements are numerous, with the likes of multi-file uploading, one-click plugin upgrades, built-in galleries, customizable dashboard, salted passwords and cookie encryption, media library, a WYSIWYG that doesn’t mess with your code, concurrent post editing protection, full-screen writing, and search that covers posts and pages.

Simple tweaks while on your coffee break

Was going though Sphinn yesterday when I stumbled into a post by Jennifer called 52 easy ways to optimize your blog in your coffee break, and as most of us are part time bloggers I can see the value in this post, as much of my blogging is done in my lunch time and the odd hour though the day (sorry boss if your reading my post).
