Is PageRank coming? And who cares?

That’s the million dollar question… since I wrote about PageRank back on 25th July and my prediction the PageRank will be around end July to early August 2007 which was based on the 2 years worth of data from Google.  But at that time the days went by then became weeks until I forgot about the latest update….  But we all agree its clearly long over due.

Then suddenly Bryan Clark of onemansgoal mentioned he got his first PageRank (Rank 5) which appeared then disappeared as fast, I was excited again to search to see if the PageRank machine was calculating again. So I went though my 70 or so blogs that I regularly follow to see if any other bloggers had any surges in there PageRank as Bryan had.

Finally I only came across Problogger and his post called “Forget about Page Rank and Build a Better Blog” where Darren wrote:

“Google are in the business of helping their users find great, authoritative and credible content on any given topic and I’m increasingly convinced that the more you spend time building sites that have that content the more highly you’ll be ranked in Google.”

I totally can agree with Darren’s reasoning behind this statement and we regularly see people obsessed with forcing a good PageRank to only sell their site to advertisers for dollars and not caring so much on their contents quality.

But at the same time I can feel with the average blogger who’s maybe searching for the first PageRank to get there respect or authority within the Blogosphere. Myself who would be classed as a relative newbie working regularly on my site to build you my quality content and practice good Search Engine Optimization techniques but at same time I would love to get my first PageRank to gauge my benchmark with my niche.

A conclusion can be drawn in that people see PageRank in different ways and will mean different things to different people, but ask yourself a simple question…

If tomorrow Google stops PageRank would you be left with a pile of rubbish what called a website?

If so you answer yes,  then you  better start looking at quality content before working more on your PageRank as its possible they could remove or change the formula used to give you the PageRank, but one things for sure quality content will always be key what every formula is used by Google.

Loose quote from Darren “Work on you blogs quality content and the PageRank will follow. “

I agree with you that page rank has become an obsession to many bloggers….but why care when all you need is traffic…most visitors don’t even know what page rank is…but then again it all depends on your niche…so who will be the loser when Google stopped updating page rank? IMO, SERP is the most important way to drive traffic and not page rank…

Well, I still want to see PR updated. I don’t bother much with SEO, and I don’t write in hopes of ranking for any particular thing, but I’d love to see that little “0/10″ go the way of the dodo.

People spend far to much time on PageRank and don’t realize that time spent on quality will greatly improve your blog and thus increase your visitors

Remember putting all your eggs in one basket will be costly, and all we are doing is putting everything into Googles basket of which we have no control.

Then there’s the change of John Chow’s PageRank from 6 to 5… I wonder if an export is happening.

I’m not that interested in PageRank, but unfortunately advertisers seem to care.

john chow is very most a wanted man in google, so his drop is sooner or later, you will not see his article rank in the top 10 digg again cause he is too famous and he don’t have to bother about the crowd..cause he know he have a group of readers already…

I think too many people are devoting too much energy to worrying about PageRank. I understand that for some people, such as those who make money from PPP or such schemes that pay more per PR point, it’s a matter of income, but PR does NOT give you credibility. Consistantly good posts give you credibility.
