When building any successful web site or blog, the process must b e done in a logical order. Step one is quality content, followed by in step two which intales submitting your site to the major search engines (likes of Google and MSN) and directories.
When ranking your site in Google, the seach engine will place an importance to “link popularity” basically meaning the site with more highquality incoming links will generally rank higher in Google. Getting these links is a must for a top ranking in Google or any other Search Engine.
But how do we get these links?
There are many different ways to get your links to your website and can be quite difficult for new sites to get any links from other sites compared to the older sites like Problogger.
As simple method to get your links going is called “reciprocal linking”, to get reciprocal links is straight forward. Heres how it works:
Search for sites that have the same niche as yours, after which place a link to their site on your site. Now email the webmaster of the other ste and ask for a link exchange.
Do not cut, copy and paste the same email to all the webmasters, take a few minutes to browse each of the sites. Then write a personalized email to the webmaster explaining why you liked their site and try be specific and of curse why you think the link exchange be benefical to both parties.
Address the webmaster by name where possible ( look up at domaintools.com for this name), give your link exchange information which should include the title of your site, a short description and the URL of your website or page. Also include the URL of the page that has his URL on it.
Now just wait and see what comes back, be prepared for rejections and soon you get a few emails agreeing to the link exchange. Check that the reciprocal link is included back to your website and send a thank you email back to the webmaster.
Quick Method to Find Willing Sites for Reciprocal Linking.
A great way to find potential reciprocal link partners is to do a Google search on one of your main keywords or phrases. Which will in turn you will find many pages of sites listed in the search results.
Here is the quick method to find out which of these sites actively exchange links.
Go to the bottom of the Google search results page. Click on the tab named “Search within results”. In the text box type in “Add URL”. This will return only the sites in your original search results listings that have an “Add URL” link on their web site. Another good search would be “link exchange”.
If you regularly pursue link exchanges, within a few short months you’ll have built up good rankings in the search engines with a steady flow of targeted traffic to your web site!

I reckon Google is not placing too much importance on reciprocal links anymore. The best best is to write quality content that people will talk about and link to.
