For the newbies or experienced webmasters around lets begin with the basics.
What is PageRank?
Page rank was born in 1997 by two people attending Stanford University named Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page. The formula to calculating what a PageRank is derived from the following:
• The number of pages linking to the page in question
• The PageRank of the pages linking to the page in question
• The Number of links going out from the pages that are linking to the page in question
Now after understanding more about PageRank let’s look into how to be prepared for the day to come.
How to prepare for the PageRank update?
One of the first things that you can do is use the D-list, this is a list of blogs that have the “do follow” plug-in installed, that means simply leaving a comment on the site will count to google, so don’t forget to add your URL to the comment. This is one of the easiest ways and will get you started on the PageRank climb.
This DoFollow Blog list is courtesy of Courtney Tuttle and was created originally by Coleen as the D-List.
Another way would be submitting your site/blog to site directories and there are thousands out there, most are free so stick with the free ones as paying is not worth it. You will not get into every single directory but if you get into half you should be able to increase your PageRank as some Directories are PR 5 or more.
Try addURL they have around 1000 directories to pick from.
Index every page of your homepage and where possible add more pages to your site as typically Google will give different PageRank to different pages within your website. As all pages do have some amount of PageRank , using these will add to your homepage overall ranking.
Backlinks will help to increase the PageRank too, for this check out 102 ways to make your site a backlink superstar, or how to get back links there really not much else I can add to these two articles.
Conclusion
Are you ready?
Some of the suggestions I have given can’t be done in a day or two and as the next PageRank exercise is coming soon, you may only be able to do a few, so start to prepare for the next PageRank in 3months time.
