Tips on how to use Del.icio.us

Social bookmarking is becoming ever so more popular as time goes by and the concept behind bookmaking is to share news and information between people. Nowadays people are building large networks of people to share similar interests.

Here are a few tips to improve your efficiently in del.icio.us

1. Don’t just bookmark your own websites – One of the biggest mistakes in social bookmarking, Some people say don’t at all bookmark your own sites but I feel you can but you must spread the love and bookmark others too.
2. Add the simple one click submission buttons – you can see at bottom of my post the simple one click button to submit my articles and likewise you can add the toolbar extension for del.icio.us to allow simple bookmarking of your chosen articles. This will save you valuable time.
3. Add at least one new friend every day – After you bookmark a post, you will see how many people have bookmarked the same item. Click on that link and you can see their comments. Find a comment by a user that you like? Visit their bookmarks page and take a look at their bookmarks. If you like what they wrote you have found a new friend, so then click on top of page where it says “add to network” and you’re done.
4. Bookmark something every day – Don’t just do it once in a while, if your account has not been used for months people will notice so bookmark regularly to maintain.
5. Spend 15mins a day bookmarking and networking – By combining items 3 and 4 you can build Rome. So as the saying goes”Rome was not built in a day” and networking is not either so spend time every day building and within 30 days your network will have grown. If you add a few friends and add 2 items a day, by end month it will be a large network.
6. Be prolific in the use of tags – Use lots of tags. The more the better but of course they should be relevant to the item you are tagging.
