BlogBackupOnline Moves from Beta

If you're new here, you may want to browse my articles and if you like them please subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

August last year I wrote about BlogBackupOnline and how you can backup your blog in case of that dreaded crash, and now they are moving from Beta. After gathering the feedback for almost a year they are ready next week to launch version 1.5.

The good news is there will still be the free Premium version, but to improve and continue to give the quality service they have added the new “Professional” and “Enterprise” accounts too.

Here is the package’s:

PREMIUM

Initially 5 MB of storage (we measured this to be adequate for most blogs).

Additionally, if you blog about BlogBackupOnline, and send them the link (to support@techrigy.com) and we will double this storage space.

Professional account will include:

50 MB of storage
Support for backing up content linked from your blog
Support for restoring your blog
Email support
$4.17 per month ($49.95 per year)

Enterprise account will include:

1 GB of storage
Support for backing up content linked from your blog
Support for restoring your blog
Phone support
$8.30 per month ($99.95 per year)

So what this means if your using BlogBackupOnline already?

“This means for you that subscribers using less than 5 MB of storage space will be upgraded to the newest version automatically. Those users using more than 5MB of storage space will have an extended period of time (6 weeks) to continue to use the service while having the opportunity to decide if they would like to upgrade to a Professional or Enterprise account.

After 6 weeks, we will continue to store your backups for one year, however new backups will not run. Techrigy will provide you with a guideline for exporting everything in your account and will continue to provide access to the backed up content.”

Please spend some time reading my old post for the basic details about BlogBackupOnline. Which can be found here

How can you be sure they won’t steal or abuse your data?

      Michael,

Thanks for the comment and it is a good question. I am the founder and president of Techrigy. A few answers to your comments.

First, all the content we back up is publicly available, so backing it up doesn’t expose anything that isn’t already exposed on the entire world. If we (or anyone else) wanted to “steal or abuse” the content, we certainly would not need you to back it up to do that. By its nature, a blog is public. Having us back it up introduces no additional risk that it will be “stolen or abused”. This is no different than worrying about will Google steal or abuse your content when you have it hosted on BlogSpot.

Second, and the better response, is that reputation is everything. I’ve founded 3 startups in the past - reputation and trust is something that is invaluable. It would be devastating to Techrigy and my own name if we stole or abused anyone’s data. Our reputation and the trust of our users far exceeds anything we could get out of stealing data. There is a huge financial incentive to never do anything to damage our reputation.

Third, we are a startup wanting to do great things, help people, and make a difference in the world. We see BlogBackupOnline as a tool to help people take control of their blogs - allowing you to move it and take it out of your hosting providers control. Stealing or abusing content is evil and is something we despise. I spend a good chunk of my day fighting spammers using BlogBackupOnline and our other applications. Another of my startups, AppSecInc, is dedicated to fighting database hackers. So doing something evil is the last thing I’d ever let happen at Techrigy or any of my other companies.

      I hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Aaron
